The Anglican Compassion and Development Initiative (ACADI) hosted a 4 days National Provincial NAWADA Training of Trainer’s program. This took place at Saint Matthias House Gudu, Abuja the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion Headquarters, between the 25th and the 28th of July 2022. This was in furtherance of the resolve to advance the fight against Drug Abuse and Addiction across the 14 Provinces of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion and their communities through sensitization, training and community interventions. A total of 78 Participants from 12 Provinces attended the training, They are: The Provinces of Lagos, Ibadan, Niger Delta, of the Niger, Ondo, Enugu, Owerri, Aba, Kwara, Lokoja, Kaduna and Abuja. The training, extensively discussed issues of drug abuse in the family, schools, church and community and how ACADI through the influence and structure of the church can intervene.
Interactive sessions discussed issues on: Understanding Drug Use, Abuse and Addiction, Prevention strategies, treatment and control Strategies, NAWADA at Community Level, Families and Communities involvement, Treatment, Control and Rehabilitation Linkages.
A major highlight of the training was a Panel discussion on The Youth and Substance Abuse where the youth’s representatives gave their first hand advice on how best to reach the youth population with the NAWADA messages.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency was at the training with a lecture on their role in mitigating drug crime and related offenses and on possible collaboration opportunities with ACADI nationwide.
